Verizon has announced the launch of Golf Channel in high-definition to its FiOS TV subscribers in Maryland and Northern Virginia. The sports network is available only to Verizon’s FiOS TV Extreme HD service subscribers. The sports channel offers a wide range of programming including news and scores, tournament coverage, post tournament programs, highlights, and current events happening around the golf industry.

Verizon also offers new subscribers who sign for FiOS TV between now and Feb. 21 will receive their choice of free use for six months of either a high-definition digital video recorder (DVR) or an HD Home Media DVR.

Mary Ellen Payne, senior vice president-marketing for Verizon’s Potomac region said “There’s HD on FiOS, then there’s everything else, with our advanced network providing far more HD channels than either Comcast or Cox, the best picture-and-sound quality, and interactive features that go beyond old-fashioned cable, there’s no better place than FiOS to experience sports in HD. With FiOS TV’s pure HD, viewers will feel as if they’re standing at the tee box.”
