Verizon FiOS TV Announced The Launch Of STAR India PLUS

Verizon and STAR announced the launch of STAR India PLUS on Verizon FiOS TV on Thursday, Sept. 23. STAR India PLUS joins FiOS TV’s extensive channel lineup, which includes nearly 40 other international channels covering more than 20 languages – a collection that cable can’t match. The channel began launching on FiOS TV this week and will be in all markets by Sept. 27.

“The addition of STAR India PLUS to the FiOS TV channel lineup further enhances our overall multicultural offering with new content that includes favorite dramas, game shows and more,” said Terry Denson, vice president of content strategy and acquisition for Verizon. “Bringing new content and sponsorship support to South Asian communities has been a priority for Verizon, and we look forward to more opportunities in the future.”

David Wisnia, STAR’s senior vice president of distribution, sales and marketing and head of STAR’s North American office, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be making STAR India PLUS available to FiOS TV subscribers. Viewers will be entertained like never before with our exciting array of dramas, reality shows and Bollywood Blockbusters. STAR India PLUS regularly features many of the top programs in the country, week in and week out. Prime time programs on STAR India PLUS include household-name soap operas like “Tere Liye,” “Sasural Genda Phool,” “Pratigya” and “Behenein,” and other favorites like “Bidaai” and “Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai.” In addition, the channel offers some of India’s favorite reality programs and game shows, including “Zara Nach Ke Dikha.” STAR India PLUS recently refreshed its brand identity and philosophy in India with a new tag line, “Rishta Wohi, Soch Nayi” (Same relationships, New thought), thereby symbolizing the channel’s goal to always be relevant to its Indian viewers while simultaneously mirroring the goings on in Indian society.

STAR India PLUS is part of FiOS TV’s South Asian (Hindi) package – which already includes Zee TV, TV Asia and SET Asia – for $34.99 per month. Verizon also offers another South Asian channel in Punjab called Jus Punjabi for $9.99 per month. The new channel joins Verizon FiOS TV’s broad collection of programming that includes more than 520 all-digital channels with up to 140 HD channels and 18,000 monthly video-on-demand titles. Verizon To Launch FiOS TV Service in Liverpool, New York Area

Verizon will be launching its FiOS TV service in Liverpool, New York area. Verizon’s expansion in the central New York area is possible as the Liverpool Village Board approved a franchise agreement on Monday, June 21.

Verizon will launch its FiOS TV service in Liverpool, delivered over the most advanced fiber-optic network directly to customers’ homes and businesses. After including Liverpool, Verizon is now offering its service in 176 of New York municipalities.

Verizon will launch FiOS TV service in Liverpool with more than 595 all-digital channels, including 138 HD channels. Subscribers can also access FiOS TV’s video-on-demand (VOD) service, with 2,800 HD titles per month and also interactive services including an advanced interactive media guide; social TV, news and entertainment widgets; remote DVR management; multi-room DVR, and more.

Jim Gerace, Verizon president for the New York region, said “Our total fiber network delivers technology innovations like the FiOS TV multi-room DVR and on-screen Twitter and Facebook Widget applications that cable just can’t provide. Verizon has launched Facebook and Twitter Social TV Widgets for FiOS TV subscribers to connect with others while watching TV. Facebook and Twitter are the most popular social networking places on the Web. The most advanced features of these widgets include using the onscreen keyboard to send Tweets and the ability for subscribers to update their Facebook status with personalized messages.

Verizon has added the new Twitter and Facebook Widgets three weeks ago and millions of Tweets and Facebook gallery photos have been viewed by FiOS TV subscribers on their TV screens.

Verizon Wireless Launches Slacker Radio Application To BlackBerry Storm Smartphones

Verizon Wireless has announced that it will launch the Slacker Radio application to its customers using the BlackBerry Storm smartphone. This feature will give customers one-click access to a free version of one of the most popular personalized radio services. This feature allows customers not only listen to their favorite music on the BlackBerry Storm smartphone, but also given customers the ability to purchase and download those tracks.

The Slacker Radio application also connects to V CAST Music, combining this exciting music application with Verizon Wireless’ industry-leading mobile music service. When a song is being played using Slacker Radio and is one of the more than 4.5 million available in the V CAST Music with Rhapsody catalog, a V CAST icon will appear on the screen that will let customers easily purchase that track while it continues playing on the smartphone.

Verizon To Offer FiOS TV Service in Pittsburgh

Verizon Communications has announced that it has reached a cable TV franchise deal with the city of Pittsburgh. This deal is subject to the approval of City Council will run for 10 years and the Telco will compete with the leading cable operator in the region Comcast.

The franchise deal will allow Verizon to deliver its cable service throughout the entire city within six years. Verizon will also provide Pittsburgh with a private fiber-optic network for its public safety communications.

Mayor Luke Ravenstahl of Pittsburgh said “I am very pleased that the city and Verizon have reached an agreement that will pave the way for cable competition in Pittsburgh, for the first time in the city’s history, Pittsburgh residents will have a choice in their cable provider.”

Verizon’s FiOS TV Signs Deal With Turner Networks And Sony

Verizon Brings ‘Community Auditions’ on FiOS1 Local Zone video-on-demand channel

Verizon’s FiOS TV in New England is to bring the longest-running entertainment television show in history ‘Community Auditions.’ Verizon started broadcasting the Boston based talent show on its new FiOS1 Local Zone video-on-demand channel. The Telco’s demand channel has eight programs that include six from the two most recent seasons and two classic shows.

FiOS1 Local Zone is available for the customers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island broadcasting news, sports and entertainment that features New England-based TV programming.

Verizon Launches New HD Channels To FiOS TV Lineup in Portland Area

Verizon Communications has announced that it has added new high-definition channels in its FiOS TV lineup for Portland area subscribers. The Telco is now offering more than 100 HD channels, 1,300 HD choices and more than 1,000 free high-definition video-on-demand (VOD) titles offered every month. The new HD channels launched include:

Cinemax HD

HBO HD

MLB Extra Innings

NHL Center Ice HD and

NHL Network HD

Verizon claims that it offers more HD channels that its competitor Comcast in the region.

New consumers who sign-up for FiOS TV between now and Dec. 31 will be eligible for a free access of premium packages that include Cinemax, HBO and FiOS TV’s Movie Package for three months.

Verizon To Deliver FiOS Services in Three More Trump Properties in New York City

Verizon Communications has signed an agreement with the Trump Organization to deliver FiOS TV programming and Internet services to more than 500 apartments in Trump Parc, Trump Parc East and 610 Park Avenue.

Verizon will work with Trump Organization to find more properties to deliver FiOS services. The Telco is already serving in two properties like he Trump World Tower at United Nations Plaza and Trump Park
Avenue.

Once Verizon starts delivering its services, subscribers will get to see more than 100 high-definition channels and also 11,000 video-on-demand (VOD) titles per month.
