VH1 Announces Programming LineUp For This September And October

Beginning September, follow NBA superstar Carmelo Anthony and television personality LaLa Vasquez as they tie the knot in one of the biggest weddings of the year on “Carmelo and LaLa.” Then, catch up with American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino as she juggles her professional and personal life during the second season of “Fantasia For Real.”

Just when it starts to get chilly, VH1 heats up October with a new season of “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” featuring Rachel Uchitel and all-new series “Football Wives” following a group of women who are the wives behind some of the hottest professional football players in the league. Then, pick up right where you left off with Brett Michaels and Brandy & Ray J on all new seasons of “Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It” and “Brandy and Ray J:A Family Business” Season Two.

“VH1′s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time” premieres Monday, September 6 @ 10 PM

It’s the definitive countdown of music —from rock to pop to rap to metal. This 5-hour special will rank the biggest of the big: Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Madonna, Jay Z, Led Zeppelin, Beyonce, The Rolling Stones and others are all vying to be named the “Greatest Artist of All Time.” Who better to crown number one than VH1? Determined by a poll of musicians and music experts, the series will premiere over four consecutive nights at 10 PM. The countdown will include special, rarely-seen performance footage along with brand new, totally original interviews with music’s most famous faces. “Real & Chance: Legend Hunters” premieres Sunday, September 19 @ 9 PM

“Carmelo and LaLa” – premieres Sunday, September 19 @ 10:30 PM

Former MTV VJ and television personality, LaLa Vazquez is set to star in a new series about her wedding, including all the planning and festivities leading up to her big day. The series begins with LaLa meeting with Mindy Weiss, A-list wedding planner to the stars, and follows her through all her wedding planning activities and Las Vegas bachelorette party. Viewers will ride along as LaLa shops for the perfect designer wedding dress, chooses the wedding venue, picks out the ultimate wedding cake and menu, plans their honeymoon, and contemplates the guest list.

“Don’t Forget The Lyrics” premieres Monday, September 20 @ 7 PM

“Don’t Forget the Lyrics!” is a musical game show that tests contestants’ knowledge of song lyrics from different genres, decades and artists. “Don’t Forget the Lyrics!” is the ultimate rock star fantasy taking viewers on a dramatic, heart pounding, rollercoaster ride of music and edge-of-your seat entertainment. Mark McGrath, a member of the multi-platinum group, Sugar Ray, hosts “Don’t Forget the Lyrics!” where he brings ordinary people center stage for a chance to win a fortune – just by knowing the words to the biggest hit songs ever recorded.

“Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It” premieres Monday, October 11 @ 9 PM

In this first-look docu-series, viewers will not only get a taste of Bret Michael’s life on the road, but also for the first time ever, get a look at his home life, a sprawling compound where his daughters, Raine and Jorja, and their mother, Kristi Gibson, reside. After the lights have dimmed on stage and the music stops for the night, Bret rolls off the tour bus right into the loving arms of his daughters Raine and Jorja, who affectionately refer to him as “Poppa Rocka.” But raising two little girls and being a rock icon don’t always go hand-in-hand. Now fans get to take a peek at what keeps Bret going. Is it the hoards of wild fans, the glory of super stardom, or is it the unconditional love from his family? “Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew” premieres Monday, October 11 @ 10 PM

VH1 has once again partnered with Dr. Drew Pinsky for a fourth season of the hit reality series “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.” Similar to the first three cycles, the fourth season of “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” will follow the real-life experiences of celebrity patients undergoing detoxification and treatment at the Pasadena Recovery Center. The series will chronicle the patients’ intensive 21-day program with both group and one-on-one therapy and non-traditional therapies like art and music. The show will include Jeremy London (“Party of Five,” “7th Heaven”), Rachel Uchitel (Infamous Party Planner), Eric Roberts (“The Dark Night” and “Heroes”), Janice Dickinson (“The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency”), Leif Garrett (Musician), Frankie Lons (Keyshia Cole’s Mother), Jason Wahler (“The Hills”) and Jason Davis (Socialite).

“VH1 Rock Doc: Shine A Light” premieres Friday, October 22 @ 11 PM

The VH1 Rock Doc: Shine a Light is the 2008 documentary film by Academy-Award winning director, Martin Scorsese documenting The Rolling Stones’ Beacon Theater performance of their “A Bigger Bang Tour.” The documentary includes archive footage from the band’s career and also shows Jack White, Buddy Guy, and Christina Aguilera performing with The Rolling Stones. The film marked the first utilization by Scorsese of digital cinematography for his films with it being used for the backstage sequences. The film takes its title from the song of the same name, featured on the band’s 1972 album “Exile on Main St.”

“Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business” Season 2 premieres Sunday, October 24 @ 10:30 PM ET/PT

Brother and sister duo Brandy and Ray J Norwood are back and ready to get down to business for the second season after taking the reins from their momager, Sonja Norwood. Brandy steps back into the music scene in preparation for her new album, all the while raising her seven year-old daughter Sy’rai. We’ll also see Ray J stepping out of his notorious bad boy image and collaborating with Rodney Jerkins and other popular R&B heavyweights for his upcoming album.

My Damn Channel has announced a new slate of original programming to mark the company’s third birthday as a producer and distributor of some of the most-watched comedy and music series.

Ten new custom channels include branded entertainment deals with Paramount and Adult Swim to promote their summer comedies, Dinner for Schmucks and Childrens Hospital respectively.

Since 2007, My Damn Channel has birthed over 30 video channels for brands, filmmakers, actors, musicians and comedians. Original series feature artists who bring sizable audiences to My Damn Channel and to its distribution partners and sponsors. Turner’s Adult Swim just launched the web comedy series, Childrens Hospital, which originally premiered on TheWB.com. Adult Swim partnered with My Damn Channel’s Wainy Days and Horrible People producer Jonathan Stern to executive produce, write and direct Childrens Hospital: Dr. Owen Maestro, a companion series of Adult Swim-branded videos featuring Human Giant alum Rob Huebel as his Hospital character ‘Dr. Owen Maestro.’ Adult Swim is airing the original Childrens Hospital web series Sunday nights at 10:30p E/P. The show stars Rob Corddry, Rob Huebel, Megan Mullally, Lake Bell, Malin Akerman, Henry Winkler, Erinn Hayes and Ken Marino. All new episodes premiere August 22nd on Adult Swim. Dinner for Schmucks Channel

To promote the new Steve Carell/Paul Rudd comedy Dinner for Schmucks, Paramount enlisted My Damn Channel to produce original branded videos on a dedicated channel and throughout the My Damn Channel syndicated network. Don Was: The Wasmopolitan Cavalcade of Recorded Music

Legendary producer Don Was has hosted the music destination on My Damn Channel since its launch in 2007. This summer, Was premieres the fourth season of The Wasmopolitan Cavalcade of Recorded Music, featuring weekly recording sessions with new and established artists. The third season of Illeana Douglas’ IKEA-sponsored comedy Easy to Assemble returns to My Damn Channel this fall. Spoofing Japanese Sentai/Power Ranger shows, Go Sukashi! was originally created by Japanese pop star Shoko Nakagawa. Comedian, writer, filmmaker and former Colbert Report staffer, Mark Malkoff has a proven ability to deliver unique entertainment experiences for brands. He consistently captures massive media coverage and millions of video views. Now, Mark Malkoff is bringing his special blend of pop culture video performance art to My Damn Channel. Malkoff first gained worldwide media attention for his video visits to all 171 Starbucks franchises in Manhattan on a single day in the summer of 2007. Malkoff’s next media-grabbing stunt happened when he moved into an IKEA in Paramus, New Jersey for a week while his NY apartment was being fumigated. VH1 Acquires ‘Anvil! The Story of Anvil’

VH1 has announced that it has acquired the exclusive broadcast rights of “Anvil! The Story of Anvil.” VH1 will manage the television and DVD release of the acclaimed documentary and distribute the film theatrically in association with Abramorama.

This documentary is the directorial debut of screenwriter Sacha Gervasi and was produced by Rebecca Yeldham. The film follows Steve “Lips” Kudlow and Robb Reiner and their band, Anvil, which released one of the heaviest albums in metal history, 1982′s Metal on Metal.

Sacha Gervasi, director of the film said “”When I was sixteen years old Anvil was my favorite band in the world. I couldn’t believe it when I met Lips and Robb in London and they invited me to come out on the road with them. Running away to join the rock and roll circus was, of course, an experience I never forgot. When I met the band again twenty years later I was completely awed and inspired to discover that they simply refused to give up on the dream they had had as kids. Cox Brings Free Sneak Previews of Starz Original Comedy Series

Cox Communications has announced that the Digital Cable customers are to get a free On DEMAND sneak preview of two Starz original series, beginning March 13th. Cox has entered a deal with Starz Entertainment to bring sneak preview of new episodes of “Head Case” and the new comedy series, “Party Down.” These Comedy series will be made available for free and unlimited on demand viewing through the FreeZone section of On DEMAND.

David Pugliese, Cox’s senior vice president of product marketing said “New episodes of the Starz comedies complement the thousands of free options available in our On DEMAND library; we are pleased to join Starz again and offer on-demand previews of each series to our digital customers at no charge.”

WNBC To Launch A New Digital Channel – New York Nonstop

NBC’s New York Nonstop a 24 hour news channel will be launched on Monday, Mar.9, 2009. This new channel will reach 5.7 million viewers and will broadcast news updates every 15 minutes. New York Nonstop will offer a 7 p.m. hour-long newscast anchored by Chuck Scarborough. The news will be based on “pod format,” using set features of various lengths.

Vickie Burns, vice president of news and content for WNBC and New York Nonstop said “Change is necessary, we like the results of the change. We’ve been very focused on what we needed to do, very focused on engaging people in that process and bringing them with us, and getting ideas and hopefully inspiration from them.”

Prime Time Communications To Offer More Than 350 Channels on UTOPIA Open Access Network

Prime Time Communications based in Englewood, Colorado has announced that it will offer more than 350 digital TV channels. Prime Time also will deliver digital voice and ultra-high speed broadband Internet access to its subscribers over UTOPIA’s 100% fiber optic Open Service Provider Model network.

Mark Wentzlaff, President and Chief Executive Officer Prime Time said “Prime Time is excited to begin serving customers on the UTOPIA network, our digital voice, video and Internet services were designed to take advantage of the capabilities of 100% fiber networks like UTOPIA’s. Bright House Networks Launches Sportsman Channel

Bright House Networks is celebrating “14 Days of Entertainment” launching seven high-definition channels and seven standard definition channels in Central Florida. Bright House will launch The Sportsman Channel in standard definition today on channel 118. Without disclosing the terms, Bright House has announced that they reached a carriage agreement with the Sportsman Channel and will be served to 590,000 subscribers.

Mark Kang, vice president of affiliate relations for The Sportsman Channel said “Thanks to InterMedia Outdoors, The Sportsman Channel has become the prime network of its genre, we’re delighted that Bright House recognizes the value we bring to their digital basic costumers and our unique ability to market their products.”

VH1 Classic Brings ‘That Metal Show’ on March 7

VH1 Classic’s That Metal Show, talk-show hosted by Eddie Trunk with co-hosts Jim Florentine and Don Jamieson is back. The funny weekly series returns on Saturday, March 7 at 11PM.

The special guests of the last season were Twisted Sister, Lita Ford, Ace Frehley of KISS and a very special appearance by former baseball star Mike Piazza. Motorola To Help Fox To Deliver All HD in 2009

Fox Networks has announced that it has selected Motorola to serve the leading television networks with satellite transmission equipment. Motorola will provide Fox with Motorola MPEG-2 HD equipment to distribute the programming in HD.

Fox has announced earlier that its sports programming will go 100% HD in 2009, by selecting Motorola, Fox will start distributing programming in following of its networks in high-definition.

Comcast Reposition Outdoor Channel To Digital Basic in Colorado

Comcast subscribers in Colorado will have Outdoor Channel in their digital classic programming package from November 4. Comcast has reached an agreement with Outdoor Channel Holdings to bring the Outdoor channel to basic digital package from the sports and entertainment tier. America’s Leader in Outdoor TV expects the packaging change will result in an incremental 250,000 subscribers.

Thomas E. Hornish, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Outdoor Channel Holdings said “We are thrilled that Outdoor Channel’s strengthened affiliation with Comcast will provide more viewers throughout Colorado with America’s leading hunting, fishing and other outdoor-related programming, having completed our carriage negotiations with Comcast on the corporate level earlier this year, we are now working closely at the regional level to demonstrate the added value that our improved network now brings to each system.”
