Dish Network Enters Ten Year Deal With Nagravision

Dish Network has entered an agreement with leading independent provider of value-added content protection solutions Kudelski Group’s Nagravision. This agreement allowed Dish Network to migrate its more than 14 million subscribers to Nagravision’s new generation security technology.

Dish Network has signed ten year agreement to optimize the resilience of its security solutions, including the deployment of next generation security smart cards in addition to a broader scope of signal protection covering traditional and emerging piracy threats.

Charlie Ergen, Chairman, CEO and President of DISH Network, said “Nagravision’s flexible solutions in supporting new services, features and functionalities as well as their pragmatic approach have helped us grow our pay-TV business in an innovative way. Dish Network Launches Local High-Definition Channels in Three Markets

Dish Network has launched local high-definition channels in three new markets on Aug.19. Dish Network now offers local HD channels in 152 markets that represent about 93 percent of US households. The satcaster has added local HD in following markets:

The Columbus/Tupelo local HD channels are:

WKDH (ABC) – Channel 45

WCBI (CBS) – Ch. 4

WLOV (FOX) – Ch. 27 and

WTVA (NBC) – Ch. 9

The Springfield local HD channels are:

KSPR HD (ABC) and

KYTV HD (NBC)

Dish Network has also added WSBT in HD in South Bend.

Dish Network And NFL Network Struck Multi-year Deal

Dish Network has announced that it has reached a multiyear agreement with NFL Network. This agreement will allow the satcaster to carry NFL Network in DISH Network’s Classic Silver 200 programming package. Dish Network Chairman, President and CEO Charlie Ergen was delighted and stated that The NFL Network is a great complement to their programming lineup and are pleased to offer the channel.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said “We are very pleased that our NFL Network will continue to be distributed in millions of homes on DISH Network, we look forward to having our Network’s upcoming coverage of the April 25-26 NFL Draft showcased on DISH Network.”

Fandango iTV Application Available on Dish Network

Dish Network has launched a new application on Set-Top Boxes known as Fandango iTV. This application is available to digital satellite television service subscribers, and they can tune to channel 100 to purchase movie tickets using the interactive Fandango application.

Powered by OpenTV middleware, the new Fandango application searches for the nearby theatre listings using the customers zip codes. Subscribers connected to the set top boxes can use their remote control to purchase the tickets using their credit cards at the Fandango-enabled theaters.

Michael Kelly, executive vice president for DISH Network said “Once again, DISH Network is leading the pack in interactivity through our award-winning set-top boxes, and with the addition of applications like Fandango, we are creating new value for our subscribers, remote movie ticket purchasing via the set-top box is only the first step. In the future, we envision banner ads for upcoming titles, movie trailers and more for our interactive advertising clients.”

Dish Network Launches Local HD in Three Markets

Dish Network has launched local high-definition channels in three more markets. Dish Network claims that the satcaster offers local HD channels in 90 markets, which represents 78 percent of U.S. TV households. The new HD stations available are:

KBMT - The NBC affiliate in Beaumont-Port Arthur, Texas

WDBD – The Fox affiliate in Jackson, Mississippi and

WPMI – The NBC affiliate in Mobile, Alabama

Dish Network Launches A 24 Hour Spanish Channel – Pasiones

Dish Network has launched a 24-hour Spanish channel Pasiones on channel 834. Dish Network has added the new channel dedicated to soap opera and telenovela genre. Pasiones is available to DishMEXICO and DishLATINO package subscribers.

The new channel is to provide programming produced in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Uruguay and the U.S. “La Baby Sister,” “Porque Diablos,” “Tormenta de Pasiones,” “Puerto de los Milagros,” “Metamorfosis” and “Kachorra” are some of the high-quality soap operas.

Dish Network Partners With CBA To Create Awareness of Digital Transition

Dish Network has signed an agreement with the Community Broadcasters Association (CBA) to prepare consumers for the digital transition before February 2009. The satcaster will also market its digital-to-analog converter boxes in partnership with CBA and the proceeds will be utilized to support the CBA in educating consumers about digital transition.

Dish Network will start marketing its TR-40 CRA, DTVPal, DTVPal Plus and the DTVPal DVR by end of this month and these are the converter boxes which allows and accepts analog and digital signals.

Tom Stingley, Executive Vice President of Sales and Distribution for DISH Network said “DISH Network, a leader in the digital transition, is proud to partner with the CBA in this widespread effort to offer over-the-air consumers the tools and resources they need to continue enjoying their favorite channels following the switch.”

Dish Network And NBC Universal’s 2008 Beijing Olympic Coverage Reached Record Audience

Dish Network has announced that NBC Universal’s coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games reached 41 percent of its subscribers through interactive television services. The satcaster along with NBCU and Ensequence presented NBC Olympics interactive programming, which was well received by Dish’s subscribers. Nielsen Media Research also announced that NBC Universal’s Beijing Olympic coverage was viewed by more Americans than any event in U.S.television history. NBCU’s coverage reached 214 million total viewers, which is a record viewership surpassed earlier Olympic coverages.

DISH Network And Ensequence To Provide Interactive TV Experience For NBCU’s Coverage of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games

NBC Universal (NBCU) has selected Ensequence and DISH Network to transform NBCU’s coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games into a fully interactive experience. NBCU has chosen Ensequence to provide a separate interactive application on DishHOME on DISH Network Channel-100. NBCU’s 2008 Beijing Olympic Games experience wraps interactivity around live programming on DISH Network.

DISH Network will offer NBCU’s 2008 Beijing Olympic Games coverage through its Interactive TV mosaic, a multiple-screen showcase, available to more than 12 million iTV-enabled DISH Network subscribers from August 8 – August 24, 2008. The iTV mosaic will broadcast from six NBCU channels: CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, USA Network and two Olympic highlight channels. DISH Network subscribers can watch all six screens simultaneously or select one channel to watch in full-screen.

NBCU and Ensequence are teaming up for the second time to deliver interactive television to viewers. Comcast Signs Agreement With NBC Universal To Offer 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in HD

After DirecTV and DISH Network, its Comcast to sign an agreement with NBC Universal (NBCU) to broadcast 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Comcast will bring 2008 Beijing Olympic Games with more choices and will be delivered over the company’s advanced fiber optic network. The cable operator is planning to provide more than thousands of hours of NBCU’s wide-ranging coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
