DirecTV has launched local high-definition channels to its subscribers in the Missoula, Mont., area. DirecTV delivers local HD channels in 136 markets, representing more than 92 percent of U.S. TV households. Following are the local HD networks available:

KPAX/CBS

KTMF/ABC and

KUFM/PBS

To receive these local HD channels, DirecTV subscribers must have an H20, H21 or H23 HD receiver, or an HR20, HR21 or HR23 DIRECTV Plus HD DVR and a Ka/Ku band dish.

Starz ‘Crash’ Sneak Previews Available On DirecTV’s The 101 Network From September 12

DirecTV has announced that The 101 Network will offer sneak previews of the second season of the Starz original series, “Crash,” in high-definition. DirecTV’s The 101 Network available exclusively to DirecTV subscribers will be treated with the first episode of the second season of “Crash” on September 12 at 8PM ET/PT and the second episode will be broadcast on September 19th at 8PM ET/PT.

The 101 Network entertains its viewers with exclusive, quality programming that includes acclaimed shows, previews of the season’s newest hits, and commercial-free entertainment, all in crystal clear HD.

The leading satellite provider in the country now offers local HD broadcast channels in 128 markets, representing more than 89 percent of U.S. TV households. DirecTV has announced that it will start adding local high-definition channels in seven new markets providing local HD channels in 133 cities, representing more than 91 percent of U.S. TV households. The new markets that will receive local HD channels this summer include:

Charleston-Huntington, West Virginia

Columbia, South Carolina

Huntsville-Decatur, Alabama

Jackson, Mississippi

Lexington, Kentucky

Roanoke-Lynchburg, Virginia and

Shreveport, Louisiana

DirecTV has stated that it will offer HD programming from the primary broadcast networks – ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC – where available and authorized to CHOICE programming package subscribers.

DirecTV To Increase Rates From March 4

DirecTV will increase the programming prices from March 4 and the cost of high-definition channel packages will also increase. The satcaster is expected to increase the price by 4%. Industrial analysts feel that the satcaster will find it tough to market the premium channel packages in the recession period. Following are the price hike expected:
DIRECTV’s Plus HD DVR package will cost $75.99 from $72.99

The Basic tier will be $12.99 per month from $9.99

DirecTV won’t change the price of Family package and it will remain at $29.99

Sanford Bernstein senior analyst Craig Moffett said “”Weighing on the pay TV stocks has been a generalized fear that investors will downgrade their service packages, on this score, DirecTV may, over the long run, be more vulnerable to recession-related service downgrades than its competitors given DirecTV’s more significant reliance on ‘discretionary’ services.”

DirecTV Brings ‘Sleeper Cell’ on The 101 Network

DirecTV is bringing one-hour action thriller ‘Sleeper Cell’ starting Wed. Jan.28 at 9:00 PM ET on The 101. Sleeper Cell created and executive produced by Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris broadcast on Showtime network in 2005 will be available on DIRECTV’s Wednesday night line-up for 18 episodes.

Sleeper Cell starring Michael Ealy and Oded Fehr, the series takes viewers underneath the veil of a terrorist network and unfolds the harrowing challenges faced by an agent determined to uncover its dark, twisted intentions. Sleeper Cell involves current events and pertinent political developments into its storylines as it explores the personal and professional side of committed agents combating the greatest and most concealed threat in the nation’s history. In 2006, the mini-series received an Emmy Award nomination, Golden Globe nomination and Television Critics Association Award Nomination. DirecTV To Cover Australian Open With Interactive Sports Service

Tennis fans will be blessed with all the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments with DIRECTV interactive sports programming starting with Australian Open.

DirecTV will integrate its interactive sports programming with ESPN2 and Tennis Channel. The satcaster will offer Mix Channel in high-definition for the first time to cover eight days of the tennis coverage from Melbourne Park. Australian Open coverage will be available on channels 701-707 starting at 7:00 ET.

DirecTV also to offer interactive services this year for French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open tournaments.
