Fans Stay Connected at D-Backs Games With Expanded Wireless Network and AT&T Wi-Fi

AT&T and the Arizona Diamondbacks have expanded wireless and broadband connectivity at Chase Field with a new Distributed Antenna System (DAS) and AT&T Wi-Fi.

The enhancements support the skyrocketing use of advanced wireless devices in the stands and will enrich baseball fans’ wireless experience whether they are checking scores, updating social networking sites, or uploading photos to friends while cheering on their team.

Here’s what’s new:

* AT&T Wi-Fi is now available at D-Backs games at Chase Field as part of a new agreement with AT&T, an industry pioneer in Wi-Fi with the nation’s largest Wi-Fi network.**
* Inside the venue, there are 287 access points to cover 48,633 seats, concession stands and concourse areas.
* Chase Field visitors with a Wi-Fi-enabled AT&T smartphone, tablet or device can easily connect to the AT&T Wi-Fi network without any setup or log in required, through an auto-authentication process.

“We want our customers to have a great network experience anywhere they go. Our alliance with the D-Backs at Chase Field has allowed us to build a robust combination of both the AT&T Wi-Fi and DAS systems to do just that,” said Jennifer Biry, Arizona vice president and general manager, AT&T. “We’re ready for the large home game crowds and the major events coming to Chase Field. AT&T is committed to investment in the local wireless network, and the new DAS at Chase Field is just one way that we’re investing in Arizona.”

A DAS installation consists of hundreds of strategically-placed antennas that distribute AT&T’s wireless network coverage throughout Chase Field, providing for more efficient management of wireless capacity in heavily-trafficked areas. DAS has the ability to provide enhanced wireless coverage to customers in indoor or outdoor spaces where geographical limitations — terrain, building construction, etc. — or crowd density might otherwise prevent an optimal wireless experience. The additional capacity is expected to help improve call reliability and enable more consistent network access to help Arizona D-Backs fans at Chase Field make the most of their AT&T devices.

“The D-backs have been pioneers in the sports industry for the many ways we have enhanced the fan experience at Chase Field over the past five years,” D-backs’ President & CEO Derrick Hall said. “In addition to providing great customer service and affordable prices to attend a game, we believe enhancing the technological aspects of a fan’s experience at Chase Field is a must. The AT&T Wi-Fi and DAS systems installed at our ballpark will allow fans to communicate better and also assist them in following the game on their smartphone or tablet devices.”

AT&T operates the nation’s largest Wi-Fi network** with more than 24,000 hotspots in the U.S. and provides access to more than 135,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements. AT&T customers with a qualifying smartphone, 3G LaptopConnect, and high speed Internet plans get access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn’t count against customers’ monthly data plans.

AT&T Partners With Silver Spring To Deliver 3G Wireless Communication Services

AT&T has entered an agreement with Smart Grid solutions company Silver Spring Networks to offer 3G wireless communication services to Silver Spring’s subscribers in United States. This agreement is next phase of AT&T’s machine to machine communications space expansion effort.

AT&T’s nationwide, high speed, cellular data network allows aggregation of data collection and transport of smart grid information to the Silver Spring’s UtilityIQ back-office application suite.

Chris Hill, vice president, mobility product management, AT&T Business Solutions, said “We are thrilled to be working with Silver Spring and their growing number of successful deployments, as we continue to expand our smart grid solutions that enable utilities to utilize wireless technology as backhaul for customer data.”

AT&T Launches Three More Free TV Apps To U-verse Subscribers

AT&T has announced the launch of two new TV apps for AT&T U-verse subscribers on November 17. AT&T has launched twelve apps this year alone and is now offering 20 TV apps available to subscribers at no extra charge.

Following are AT&T’s new apps launched:

Offers On Demand – This app lets you redeem a coupon code on-screen for discounts on movie rentals; and Caller ID on TV, an app that lets you view your U-verse Voice Caller ID and voicemail notifications on your U-verse TV screen. U-verse TV customers can find Offers On Demand coupon codes on channel 200, at http://uconnect.att.com and in the monthly U-guide magazine. U-verse TV and AT&T wireless customers can also opt in for Offers On Demand coupon codes via U-verse Mobile Alerts by texting “On Demand.”

Caller ID on TV – Lets customers view their U-verse Voice Caller ID and voicemail notifications on their U-verse TV screen. The app is now available to all U-verse TV and Voice customers in Austin at no extra charge, and will be rolling out on a market-by-market basis to all U-verse markets. Customers already enjoy apps that integrate their U-verse TV and U-verse Voice services, including the ability to view a log of recent incoming calls on your TV screen with Call History and the ability to initiate a call from your TV.

ESPN FULL COURT Multiview – This app is available for all U-verse TV ESPN FULL COURT package subscribers. The app lets basketball fans view four channels of ESPN college basketball coverage at one time on channels 4500 and 621. U-verse TV customers can order the ESPN FULL COURT package for an Early Bird Special of $105 online at http://uverse.att.com through Nov. 28.
